The first committee of nine members back in 1995 were; Buddy Fry, Mickee Fry, Robert Burcham, Richard Meyers, Darrell Fry, Brian James, Bruce McGinnis, Brent Sexton, Mike Whitley. Our chapter has had five committee members in the past years who have served on the NWTF Ohio State Board and they are; Buddy Fry, Mickee Fry, Robert Burcham, Brenda Burcham and Larry Kingery. Buddy Fry also served on the NWTF National Board from 2010-2013. Thanks to those dedicated people for their leadership, passion and drive that has led our chapter to where we are today and have grown in committee size, banquet size, community and outreach events and programs.

Hunting Heritage Program & Community Outreach’s

We host a full calendar of outdoor events for men, women, youth, and the disabled;

Each year our chapter offer people in the Tri-State Area opportunities to explore the outdoors through local hands-on events and hunts. These events are designed to pass on the traditions of safe, ethical hunting and teach conservation principals. We know them as Hunting Heritage Events Including: A JAKES Youth Turkey Hunt & Fishing Day for youth, Wheelin’ Sportsmen Spring Fishing Day & Fall Bow Hunt for people with disabilities and Women in the Outdoors Field Day in the fall, For our regular and Non-Members we a host a coyote Seminar. We also host Our Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet in August.

We also support our Local community though several outreach’s every year including: Awarding two high school seniors from our county each year scholarships during the banquet. Our Newest outreaches are the Turkey Hunters Care Program where we provide Frozen turkeys to local Churches and foodbanks. And our Toys for Jakes where we help purchase toys for kids that won’t have a Christmas.

We would like to thank all of our donors & sponsors who have always supported us in all of our events as well as all of the landowners and guides for everything they do.

About The NWTF

National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) was founded in 1973, there were about 1.5 million wild turkeys in North America. After decades of dedicated work, that number hit a historic high of almost 7 million turkeys thanks to the tremendous efforts of our dedicated volunteers, professional staff and committed partners.

The mission of the NWTF is no less urgent today than when it was founded. What we do in the coming decades will be instrumental in not only enhancing wild turkey populations but also in the continuation of hunting and quality wildlife habitat for countless species.

Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. is the NWTF’s 10-year initiative to:

1. Conserve or enhance 4 million acres of critical upland habitat

We’re bringing focus to our conservation delivery by identifying areas of habitat that provide the most positive impact for wildlife.

2019: 653,676 Acres
7-Year Total: 3,583,469 Acres

2. Create 1.5 million hunters

We’re securing the future of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation by increasing the number of hunters, who pay for 80 percent of wildlife conservation through excise taxes on guns, ammunition and more.

2019: 8,865
7-Year Total: 1,526,852*
[Goal surpassed in 2019]
*includes Families Afield

3. Open access to 500,000 additional acres for hunting

Because lack of access to hunting lands is a main reason people stop hunting, we’re ensuring there’s opportunity for everyone to find a place to go. section.

2019: 66,826 Acres
7-Year Total: 626,658 Acres
[Goal surpassed in 2018]
